1st National Meeting “Nanotechnology: Legislate to Compete”

PToNANO hosted the 1st National Meeting “Nanotechnology: Legislate to Compete” at the Portuguese Institute for Quality (IPQ), Portugal. The meeting aimed at presenting the NANoREG’s objectives and the activities being developed in Portugal under the NANoREG project. It was also intends to foster the dialogue and collaboration between the various national bodies involved in the innovation and decision-making in the field of nanotechnology, promoting an open debate on responsible development of nanosciences, nanotechnologies and nanomaterials and on their impact in the economic and social progress.

The meeting gathered more than one hundred participants, from different institutions, public and private, of varied sectors of activity and from different part of the country. As an example are referred the regulators, industry associations, consumer associations, government agencies, health authorities, technological research centers, universities and public and private institutions.

The Meeting highlighted the relevance and urgency of implementing legislation / regulation towards a responsible and sustainable development of nanosciences, nanotechnologies and nanomaterials as catalysts of economic and social progress of our country.
